JVWigs Hair Guide
The Complete Wig Size Guide:
Everything You Need to Know
Before You Buy
From measuring your head to choosing your perfect hair type — your questions answered.
Buying a wig — especially for the first time — can feel overwhelming. What size do I need? What's the difference between raw and virgin hair? Will it look natural? We hear these questions every day at JVwigs, and we're here to answer all of them clearly and honestly.
01 — Why Size Matters
Getting the Right Fit Changes Everything
A wig that doesn't fit properly will never look natural — no matter how beautiful the hair is. Too loose and it shifts throughout the day. Too tight and it becomes uncomfortable within hours. The good news? Getting your size right is simpler than most people think.
Whether you're buying for your wedding day, a special occasion, or simply to elevate your everyday look — your fit is the foundation of everything else.
💡 JVWigs Tip
Most women fall into the "average" cap size — but don't assume. Taking 5 minutes to measure properly can save you weeks of discomfort.
02 — How to Measure
How to Measure Your Head at Home
All you need is a soft measuring tape (or a piece of string and a ruler). Measure on dry, flat hair for the most accurate results.
How to measure your head for the perfect wig fit
- 1Circumference: Wrap the tape around your head, starting at your natural hairline at the front, around to the nape of your neck. This is your most important measurement.
- 2Front to nape: Place the tape at your hairline in the centre of your forehead and run it over the crown to the nape of your neck.
- 3Ear to ear (across forehead): Measure from one ear across your forehead to the other, following your hairline.
- 4Ear to ear (over top): Measure from ear to ear going over the crown of your head.
- 5Temple to temple: Measure from one temple around the back of your head to the other temple.
- 6Nape of the neck: Measure the width of your nape at the base of your hairline at the back of your head.
03 — Cap Sizes
Understanding Wig Cap Sizes
Once you have your circumference measurement, use this chart to find your cap size. Most wigs come in petite, average, and large — with average fitting the majority of women.
| Cap Size | Circumference | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Petite / Small | 20.5" – 21.5" / 52–54.5 cm | Smaller head circumference |
| Average / MediumMost Common | 21.5" – 22.5" / 54.5–57 cm | Fits most women |
| Large | 22.5" – 23.5" / 57–60 cm | Larger head circumference |
💡 JVWigs Tip
If you're between sizes, always size up. An adjustable strap can take in a slightly larger cap, but there's no comfortable way to stretch one that's too small. All JVwigs wigs include adjustable straps for a custom fit.
04 — Hair Length
Choosing Your Hair Length
Hair length is measured from root to tip when the hair is stretched straight. This means a curly or wavy wig will appear shorter than its stated length when worn — which is completely normal.
| Length | Where It Falls | Style Vibe |
|---|---|---|
| 10" – 12" | Jaw to collarbone | Short, chic, low maintenance |
| 14" – 16" | Collarbone to chest | Classic, versatile, popular |
| 18" – 20" | Mid-chest to bust | Feminine, elegant, flattering |
| 22" – 24"Bridal Favourite | Waist length | Glamorous, dramatic, stunning |
| 26" – 30" | Hip length | Bold, luxurious, statement-making |

05 — Raw vs Virgin Hair
Raw Hair vs Virgin Hair: What's the Difference?
This is one of the most common questions we receive — and the answer is simpler than you might think. Both are premium quality, but they are not the same thing.
Premium
Raw Hair
Collected directly from a single donor, with all cuticles running in the same direction. The most natural-looking, longest-lasting hair available. Never chemically processed in any way.
Best for: Long-term investment · Colour treatments · Maximum versatility
High Quality
Virgin Hair
Collected from multiple donors but never chemically processed. Excellent quality with a beautiful natural look — at a more accessible price point.
Best for: Everyday wear · New wig wearers · Budget-conscious luxury
💡 JVWigs Tip
If you plan to colour, bleach, or heat-style regularly — raw hair is your best investment. It holds up to styling far better over time. Virgin hair is perfect if you love the natural colour and want a beautiful ready-to-wear option.
06 — Lace Types
Understanding HD Lace
The lace is the foundation of your wig's hairline — it determines how natural the wig looks and how easy it is to install. At JVwigs, we use HD lace as standard across all our wigs.
| Lace Type | Transparency | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Regular Lace | Medium | Beginners, budget-friendly |
| Transparent Lace | High | Fair to medium skin tones |
| HD LaceJVWigs Standard | Ultra-high — melts into skin | All skin tones, most natural look |
HD lace is the thinnest, most breathable lace available. It becomes virtually invisible against your skin, creating the illusion that the hair is growing directly from your scalp — and it works beautifully across all skin tones.

07 — Your Checklist
Before You Buy: Your Complete Checklist
Run through this before placing your order to make sure you're choosing the right wig for you:
- I've measured my head circumference and know my cap size
- I've decided on my desired length (remembering curly/wavy appears shorter when worn)
- I know whether I want raw or virgin hair for my lifestyle
- I've checked the processing time — 14–21 days for raw, 7–14 days for virgin hair
- I've read the store policy and understand all sales are final
- I know my natural hair colour to choose the right shade
- I've considered whether I want a pre-made wig or bundles + frontal/closure
